Background & biography
Paul Chipperfield, whose studio name is The Mighty Chip, is a designer with a real flair for creative and illustrative graphic design.
Coming from a fine art background, Paul took a more commercial direction after university, where he studied Illustration at the Coventry University School of Art & Design. Graduating in 2009, his career in industry led to working in consultancy and agency roles as a graphic designer and illustrator.
After his most recent role as head of design at a Birmingham-based PR and marketing firm, Paul decided to establish his own design practice. Building on his experience working across a range of client accounts and multiple sectors, Paul began freelancing in late 2017.
Paul now divides his time between graphic design freelancing, where he works primarily on websites and print-based promotional materials. He also works alongside his wife on their artisanal precious metal jewellery brand.
A hallmark of Paul's illustration style is the narrative he incorporates into his work, conveyed through carefully considered composition.
He also loves to create richly detailed and dramatic fantasy scenes with whimsical, often playful characters - each with their own story to tell. Paul combines traditional media with digital, where his hand-drawn aesthetic is integrated with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Recently, Paul was delighted to have been selected by Oxford Designers & Illustrators as one of their freelance artists. The company are a specialist supplier to leading educational publishers.
